That’s right, November, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo, otherwise known as Nolife-November. If you don’t know what I’m talking about well…run now while you still can.
In all seriousness, NaNoWriMo is when crazy people like myself, and other writers, smash out a 50,000 word novel in a month. No really. I swear it’s a thing. Head over to their website if you don’t believe me.
Anyway, last year I wrote the first draft of my novel currently titled Tourmentum (it’s in the submitting and revising phase right now), short blurb: a few dragons, a little bit of romance, and a whole lot of teenage cyborg gladiators fighting for their lives and their fame. The quote below is from one of the middle chapters.
‘Looks like violence is the answer.’ It’s a snotty thing to say but I can’t help it. Playing nice is never my forte in the Ment. Competitors are for defeating, not befriending. ‘I guess we have to climb.’
This year I am working on the first draft of the sequel, Sanctum, which is a little bit of cybernetic upgrades, a fair amount of training and a whole lot of dragons…It’s pretty slow going as I still have a few exams and assignments for university to finish off but so far my favourite line is:
It’s one thing to meet a dragon on a mountain side, to fly on the back of one, to talk to one, it’s something else entirely to be helpless on the ground as hundreds of them stalk towards you, their eyes only on you.
I will be putting up more quotes as I go along on my facebook page. Like my page to get more of the good stuff.
Are you a NaNoWriMo masochist like me? You can find me under Penny Dedman (don’t ask), I’d love to help encourage you on your writing journey.
