At the start of this year, I was pretty over editing my novel, for what felt like the millionth time. Now I’ve had about four months of agonising postgraduate diploma taking up all my time and brain space I am super keen to get back to my writing. Unfortunately, I still have a long wait to go, with more classes, exams and then only a three-week break to breathe before diving in for my third and final 10- week prac. Fortunately, after prac comes the job seeking phase, where I’m sure I will have plenty of time to edit, polish and finally get around to querying my book.

In the mean time, I am managing to find some time to read. I sneak in a short 30 minutes before bed to help myself unwind and to let my brain go from a million thoughts a second to being calm. Right now I am reading Wayfarer a sequel in a duology (yes!) then I will be moving on to two other books that look super exciting. Even though I can’t write right now, I can read, and reading is really important in first, crafting good writing, but in also keeping me inspired. When I read a good book, it makes me want to write one just as good or even better.

So get reading. Put down that Netflix remote and pick up a book. If you can write, write in place of those of us who can’t right now because we are too busy writing assignments and essays. I know that come October I am going to be mad at it.
