So last Saturday I presented a workshop at my first writers festival. I was dobbed in by my bestie and fellow writer Rebekah Cumming who was talking about how you go from an idea to a book and all things indie publishing.

As I am studying fairy tales for my honors project I have a workshop on fantasy worldbuilding because… why not? I’m not claiming to be an expert on the topic, yet, but I do know a thing or two about thinking up ideas as I have a notebook stuffed full of them (not to mention a degree that required original ideas for every assessment task each year).
They day was great with a modest crowd of 25 people, a good size for a first-time presenter. We were welcomed and listened to the journey of a local children’s author who has just had her first book accepted by Fremantle Press after years of trying.

I was up after morning tea and my group generated some fantastic ideas in my workshop (yes, it was super interactive, I am a teacher by trade). I also got to join in on a stop motion workshop and a war gaming demonstration.
Overall it was a fantastic day and gave me confidence in my knowledge and understanding of my craft. Not to mention a tonne of laughs with some very lovley people. If you ever have the chance to attend a local writers festival, GO!
